Rainham Anti-Idling Project Workshops
Update from Cllr Martin Potter
It was excellent to attend two very productive workshops yesterday for the Rainham anti-idling project. The project is a partnership between Medway Council and the University of Kent with funding awarded by Defra to help improve air quality along the A2 (High Street) corridor. Through the excellent efforts of local resident and clean air campaigner, Alan Stockey, workshops to design effective signage were facilitated by Alan at The Howard School (with students from Rainham Mark and Rainham School for Girls also attending), and for the adults at St Margaret's Church with the support of Kayleigh from the church and Eco Hub.
Alan will be organising an online poll for residents to choose what signage they think will be most effective and these will then be deployed on the High Street at the Maidstone Road junction to see if they work. The University of Kent will be supporting the research with the idea for the most effective signage being deployed by the council. As mentioned in Action Forum, volunteers will be needed in the coming months to monitor vehicles so keep a look out if you would like to be involved.
